About Ballroom DancingWith the recent popularity of TV shows such as Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, ballroom dancing has become popular for people of all ages. We use the term Ballroom Dancing at its widest definition, to define almost any type of partner dancing as recreation. Here is a list of the styles of ballroom dancing we teach and their definitions:

Ballroom Dance Lessons

Ballroom Dancing (Smooth/Standard)

Picture Fred and Ginger gliding across the screen, sometimes together, sometimes apart, but always in perfect time. This is American Smooth Ballroom Dancing which includes four dances: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. American Smooth is perfect for social dancing at weddings and business functions.

When one conjures an image of ballroom dancing, International Standard is the style that most often comes to mind: sweeping ball gowns, men in tails and formal, regal dancing. Primarily for competitive dancing, International Standard includes five dances: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep.

In addition to the American and International Styles of Tango, we also teach Argentine Tango.

Latin Dancing

Latin Dancing (Rhythm/Latin)

There are two divisions within this category. There are the American Rhythm Dances which include Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero and Mambo, and the International Latin Dances which include Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

While some of the same dances appear in both categories, they are danced quite differently in American Style versus the International Style. As with the more traditional Ballroom dances, American Style is more suited for social dance, whereas Internationl Style is better suited on the competition dance floor.

Salsa Dance Lessons

Club Style Latin (Salsa Dancing)

Known for its sensual hip action and sexy flair, Latin dance is gaining popularity on dance floors everywhere. When speaking of Latin dancing, people may be referring to the ballroom style Latin dances as described above, or they may be referring to the Club Style Latin dances of Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata. These are the dances you are most likely to see being danced at the Latin dance clubs.

Country Western Dancing

Country Dance

Country music calls for a wide variety of dance styles, so country dancers include all sorts of dances highlighted by the signature dance, the two step. Country music has an enduring appeal to people from many cultures and lifestyles. The fun, welcoming and casual atmosphere is appropriate for families, couples and singles. In addition to Country Line Dancing, the Country Western partner dances include: Two Step, Polka, Waltz, Cha Cha, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, and Nightclub Two Step.

Swing Dance Lessons

Swing Dancing

When most people think of swing dancing, they think of big band music and the high flying, acrobatic style of swing dance from the 1920s and 1930s. Most aren't aware that there are many styles of swing dancing ranging from the fast and athletic, to the slow and sultry, to the easy, upbeat and fun.

At All That Dance Studios in Louisville, we teach the 6 most popular styles of swing dancing including: West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jive, Hustle, and Jitterbug.
